It also acted as the reboot of the hit Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series. The game was an ambitious launch. Activision claimed that the game was built from the ground, and it will be the best Call of Duty title that they have ever released. Upon release, this was proved somewhat true as the game felt like a breath of fresh air. The gameplay was improved, gunplay also felt more natural, and the launch was stable and pretty decent. However, the game had a lot of issues related to performance. Many users reported crashes and frame drop problems. It is quite normal for a game release these days to have its own set of bugs, glitches, and crashes, but this issue is much severe in Call of Duty. This crashing issue can become irritating and might cause the user to even delete the game out of frustration. This crashing problem is not limited to low-medium budget PC/Laptops. Even high-budget systems experienced constant crashes, game-breaking bugs, and whatnot. Although Activision has released a lot of patches and updates that are huge every month. The game is notorious for its ginormous patch size and installation size on the storage drives. That is a different topic for discussion. The reason why you are here is that at some point, you might have faced the dev error 6068 while playing Modern Warfare. Many users have reported that the game still crashes randomly while playing despite getting these massive updates in size. This implies this is not a hardware level issue but a software level one, and it can be fixed by a few reliable workarounds that worked for people on the web.

What Is Modern Warfare Dev Error 6068?

It is nearly impossible to develop a game, whether by an indie developer or by a triple-A studio-like Activision, EA, Bethesda, Ubisoft. Players will most likely face crashes, bugs, and hilarious yet fun ruining glitches. The triple-A studio may avoid major glitches, but they still have to deal with bugs and crashes just like any indie developer. Call of Duty is not an exemption. Although you may see the dev error 6068 on the recently released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare or Black Ops Cold War. Modern Warfare dev error 6068 pop up right after when the user clicks on the “Play” button after launching the Battle.net client. Some users have also reported that this error also occurs during gameplay, causes the game to crash. When the player experiences this pop-up, the game minimizes and stops responding. The most common solution that you will read to fix this issue is to update your graphics and system drivers. However, this error can still pop out and can become infuriating. The error prompts there is something wrong with the DirectX version that is installed on your system. You might have seen something like this: “DEV ERROR 6068 “DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error“ “To contact customer service support,“ go to http:support.activision.com/modernwarfare“ You might even see something like: “DEV ERROR 6068“ “DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error“ Now, what does this error mean? As the prompt suggests, the game experienced an issue with the DirectX version that is installed on your system. It means that the DirectX version installed on your PC is corrupted. If you have no idea about DirectX or what it does, it is a collection of application programming interfaces that handles requests and tasks related to video games and other multimedia projects. Almost every game use DirectX for its development. Games that are released for Microsoft Windows use DirectX. If the DirectX files get corrupt due to any reason, you can expect the games to misbehave. There are many reliable workarounds popular on the internet that you can try to fix this irritating issue. Let us get to the workarounds without wasting any time.

#1- Force Run The Game With DirectX 11

It has been almost five years since Microsoft has released DirectX 12 along with Windows 10. Yes, it has been five years. The latest version of DirectX 12 is called DirectX 12 Ultimate, was announced in March 2020, and is currently available for Windows users to download and install on their machines. Chances are that Modern Warfare is running with DirectX 12, which might not be supported by your GPU driver or could be due to other issues. In this fix, you can try forcing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare to run with DirectX 11, which is much stable than DirectX 12. DirectX 12 does not cause issues with Modern Warfare only, many people have reported that they tend to have performance issues when they launched the game with DirectX 12. Many gamers tend to run the game or force them to run with DirectX 11 for better performance. You can also do the same with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. We can force the game to run in DirectX 11 by using command-line arguments. If you are not familiar with the procedure, do not worry, I got you covered. Just follow the steps mentioned down below:

Open Battle.net launcher from your desktop or Start menu. Click the gear icon right beside the “Play Button” and select “Game Settings”.(You can also open settings by pressing the Battle.net icon on the top right and selecting “Settings”). Find and check the “Additional command line arguments” option to be able to use commands. Type the following without quotations, “-d3d11”. Press “OK” when done. Launch Call of Duty to check if you are facing the dev error anymore.

#2- Update Your GPU’s Driver

Whenever you search for Call of Duty constant crashing on the web, you will face this solution almost everywhere and for good reasons. Nvidia and AMD often release bug fixes and security patches for their desktop drivers. People often report that updating their GPU drivers to the latest versions either will improve the performance or reduce the performance and sometimes they do not feel any performance difference after updating. If you have not updated your GPU drivers for a while, or you do not update them for some reason, or for some reason, the option for auto-update is turned off. I believe updating the GPU drivers might be worth a shot. It is one of the quickest ways that can prevent or reduce crashes for Call of Duty on your PC. Updating to the latest versions of drivers is generally a good idea. If you have quite a recent GPU, it is recommended to upgrade your GPUs whenever team-green or team-red roll out a new update. That aside, there are multiple ways through which you can update your GPU, I will discuss two easy ways with the help of which updating the GPU drivers will be a breeze. Method 1 – Updating the GPU driver via the software In this method, you can try updating your GPU driver from the GPU software installed on your system. Here is how you can update both Nvidia or AMD drivers on your machine. How to Update Graphics Drives on AMD systems

Open RADEON SETTINGS by right-clicking your desktop and selecting “Radeon Settings“.  After the RADEON SETTING window appears, find and click the “Update” button located on the bottom side of the GUI. Then click the “Check for Updates” button. The software will check AMD servers for the latest driver version than the currently installed version on your PC. Upon finding a newer version of the Radeon settings, you will have four options to choose from. Find the “New Option,” button a drop-down menu will appear, select the most suitable option out of the four from the menu.NOTE: Express Upgrade: This option will only install the core and crucial features of the driverCustom Upgrade: This option allows the user to select from individual components to install on their storage drives.Release Notes: This option lists all of the changes in the new driver, including new features, bug fixes, specific game improvements, and so on. Select the choice which suits your system the most, I recommend selecting the Express Upgrade option. A prompt will pop up and will ask for confirm installation, click on “Proceed” followed by a tick mark and the installation will start.

How to Update Graphics Drivers on Nvidia Systems If you have an Nvidia GPU installed in your system, here is how you can update them:

Open the Nvidia GeForce Experience by clicking the arrowhead on the Taskbar and right-clicking the Nvidia icon and selecting the “NVIDIA GeForce Experience” option. As the GeForce windows open, click on “Drivers” located on the right side of the “Home” button. Then click the “Check for Updates” link. The driver will then check for a newer driver version. If found, you will see the new driver version under the “AVAILABLE” section, click the “DOWNLOAD” button to start downloading. After the download completes, you will see two choices to select from; “Express Installation” and “Custom Installation”.NOTE: Custom Installation: This option allows the user to select specific components of the driver for your system.Express Installation: This option will install all crucial and important components included in the driver package. I recommend selecting the Express Installation. When the installation will complete, restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Method 2 – Check for GPU driver updates via Windows Update Utility This is a straightforward method. Using the Windows Update checker feature, you can check if a new version of the GPU driver or any other driver is available or not. To do that:

In the search box, located on the Taskbar, type “Check for updates” and click the first result. From the new window, click the “Check for Updates” button. If found, it will search for pending updates, including drivers, wait for Windows to download and install any updates. Restart your system for the changes to take effect.

#3- Run The Game As Administrator

Windows has many restricted parts that cannot be accessed normally by any program or game. To bypass this hindrance, the program is run with admin privileges. You can say how can I run Call of Duty as admin when you can only run it with Battle.net client. There is a way to do that:

Open Battle.net client on your desktop. To be on the safe side, run the client as an administrator. Now on the main screen of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, find and click the gear icon right beside the big “Play” button, and select “Show in Explorer”. This will open the directory where Call of Duty files are installed. Go to the Modern Warfare folder, find and right-click the “Modern Warfare Launcher.exe” and select “Run as administrator”. Launch Call of Duty: Modern Warfare to check if you are still experiencing the crashes or not.

#4- Change The VideoMemoryScale Value Inside Game Folders

Video Memory Scale is a fancy term that you might come across while you are searching for the fix for dev error 6068. This feature allows the game on how much of the VRAM a game can consume. Using higher amounts of VRAM can cause the crash behind the dev error. Tweaking the values to lower values might just fix the issue, and possibly it could be the solution that you might be looking for. Adjusting the values might even fix other crash issues or performance bugs. It is worth a shot. To adjust your Video Memory Scale value, please follow the steps down below: Make sure to quit the game properly before following the procedure. Double check via Task Manager. If you find any Call of Duty process, end the process.

Open File Explorer and navigate to the following directory:This PC\Documents\Call of Duty Modern Warfare\players Find and right-click the “adv_options.ini” file, select “Open With…” and then select “Notepad” (you can open it with any text editor) Find “VideoMemoryScale” and change the value to 0.5. Click “File” and select “Save”. (Alternatively, press “Ctrl + S”) to save the changes. Close the text editor when done. Launch Call of Duty to check if you are still facing the dev error crash after using this workaround.

#5- Set The Priority Of Call of Duty’s Process To High

Play with the priorities of computer processes unless you have a pretty good idea of what you are doing. By setting the priority of any process or game, that process will be prioritized by the CPU (depending on the priority type). Windows shares processes and other system resources with other processes, each having normal priority except for the critical processes like the kernel. The game might not be getting the resources it needs to run without any problems. Modern Warfare is a graphic and CPU-intensive game without a doubt, so setting the priority of it to high might do the trick. Follow the steps mentioned down below to set the priority of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare from Normal to High Priority.

Open Task Manager by right-clicking the taskbar and selecting “Task Manager”. (Alternatively, you can press “Ctrl + Shift + Delete” on your keyboard, and select “Task Manager” from the screen. From Task Manager, find the “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” process, right-click and select “Set Priority”. Click on “High” and then close the Task Manager. Launch Call of Duty: Modern Warfare to check if the issue is resolved or not.

#6- Switch Your Graphics Card To High-performance mode

A GPU running with an energy-saving profile will run on lower clock speeds to save energy and cause issues while gaming, like lower FPS and sometimes stuttering. If you have never set the power management mode of your GPU, it may be set on “Power saving mode” by default. This is to ensure that GPU does not consume extra power, thus “Power saving mode”. Some people never get into the settings of their GPU because they can become overwhelming for a beginner or any non-tech person. You can change the settings to high-performance mode to ensure each part of your GPU is used while you game. Changing the power profile of GPU is relatively easy and can be done in a couple of clicks. Both AMD and Nvidia have profiles for power management. Here is how you can change on each of these platforms: How to change power management mode in Nvidia sytems If you have an Nvidia system, please follow the following steps. If you are an AMD user, feel free to skip this part.

#7- Run Game At 30FPS

Out of all fixes mentioned in this article, this fix is the weirdest one, and you might even want to skip it. That being said, almost everyone is going to play Modern Warfare at 60+ FPS. Nobody will think or want to play the game at 30FPS, but to my surprise, this solution tends to fix the crash for some people. It sounds weird at the start, but it could be worth a shot. You can try running the game with 30FPS to check if it fixes the crashes. If it does, you might have to play at 30FPS for a while until you find a reliable fix to your problem. You can set the custom framerate limit in Call of Duty by:

Launch Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Go to Graphics Settings, scroll down, and find “Custom Framerate Limit”. Change the limit from “Unlimited” to “Custom”. Go to “Advanced” and set “Gameplay Limit” at 30 max. Set “Menu Limit” at 30 max. Set the “Out of Focus Limit” at 30 max.

Try playing the game to check if the game still crashes or not. If you have a pretty decent PC, my suggestion is to try other workarounds first before getting to this fix.

#8- Select The Exit Battle.net Completely Option

Battle.net is another launcher that tends to run in the background. Running an extra launcher means extra resource consumers that can become a headache for people with low to medium budget PC/Laptops. Call of Duty Modern Warfare is a high recourse intensive game. If your system is anything but high end, trust me, you do not want an extra launcher in the background. You need a few programs to run in the background as possible so that Call of Duty can run with maximum system resources. Thankfully, Blizzard’s Battle.net has a feature that asks the user whether they want the launcher to run in the background whenever they run a game from the client, which is pretty nice. To use this option:

Launch Battle.net from your desktop or the Start menu. Click the Battle.net icon on the top right and then, select “Options”. On the left panel of the Battle.net window, select “App”. Under the “General” section, find and select “Keep Battle.net open” under the “ON GAME LAUNCH”. From the drag-down menu, select “Exit Battle.net completely”. Press the “Done” button on the bottom right corner to save your changes. Launch Modern Warfare from the client to check if you are still facing the dev error 6068 or not.

#9- Select The Scan And Repair Option

File corruption is nothing new and can happen due to many reasons, unexpected interruption during downloading, unexpected shut down of PC, storage drive with bad sectors, and many more. If, during download or installation, any of the files got corrupted, it will likely throw the dev error 6068. No, you will not have to download the game again, who has the time and patience to download a 170GB+ video game. To save us from this trouble, Battle.net, like Steam, allows the user to check the file integrity of their game files with the server ones. IF you think you might a few files corrupted during download or installation, you can try the scan and repair option. If corrupted files were your issue, this would resolve the problem. Due to the huge size of the game, it might take a while to fully scan and repair and corrupted files. Feel free to try other fixes from the article before trying this method. Here is how you can check and fix file integrity on Battle.net:

Open Battle.net client on your desktop. Run the launcher as admin, just to be on the safer side. Now on the main screen of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, find and click the gear icon right beside the big “Play” button, and select “Scan and Repair”. A new popup will appear that will ask for confirmation, select the “Begin Scan” to start scanning the files. Wait for the scan to complete. After the scan is complete, try running the game again.

If you are not facing the dev error 6068 anymore, it means your game had corrupted files that were preventing you from playing the game.

#10- Deactivate The NVIDIA Overlay

Some games have a bad history with the overlays, whether it is the Nvidia overlay or the Steam overlay. Many people have suggested that turning off the respective overlays have removed the crashes on their systems. Battle.net does not have an overlay, there is only one overlay that you can disable to check if it prevents Call of Duty from crashing. Likely, you might also use Discord on your system, which makes a total of three possible overlays, which might be the culprit behind the dev error 6068. You can disable these overlays, in this fix, I will show you how you can disable the Nvidia/AMD overlay to prevent Call of Duty crashing. How to disable the Nvidia Overlay If you are running Call of Duty, make sure to exit the game first before trying this circumvent. Also, kill processes related to Call of Duty from the Task Manager (if they exist).

Launch the Nvidia GeForce Experience. You can do that by clicking the arrowhead on the Taskbar, then right-click the Nvidia icon and select “NVIDIA GeForce Experience“. On the top side of the UI of GeForce Experience, press the gear icon to open Settings. Select the “General” section on the left side of the Settings window. Find the “IN-GAME OVERLAY” and press the toggle button to turn the overlay off. Start Call of Duty and check if you are still facing any crashes.

How to disable AMD overlay Like Nvidia, you also have the option to disable the AMD overlay. You can do that by:

Open AMD Radeon Software from the taskbar or by searching in the Search box on the taskbar. (You can also open the Radeon settings by pressing the right mouse button and selecting “AMD Radeon Settings”). On the main screen of the AMD Radeon Settings, press the cog icon to open Settings. Under the “General” tab, scroll down and find “IN-GAME OVERLAY”. Press the toggle button to disable the in-game overlay option. Run Call of Duty from Battle.net to check if the issue is fixed or not.

#11- Run SFC/DISM Commands

Talking about file corruption, it is one of the most common and widespread issues in the world, and Microsoft Windows is notorious for file corruption due to any unexpected interruption during downloading any update like internet connection or bad storage drive sectors or even due to ransomware or viruses. Due to bad or missing Windows files, you might be getting the dev error 6068. Luckily, Windows offers handy tools that can repair missing or corrupted system files by scanning the necessary system files on the storage drive. The two convenient tools are SFC (System File Checker) and DISM (Deployment Image Servicing and Management) scans. Any missing or corrupt system files can be fixed by using these utilities. If the system files got corrupted or are missing from your storage drive due to any possible reason, fortunately, with the help of SFC and DISM scans, these defetive files can be replaced or fixed, depends on the issue. Here is how you can use these handy tools for scanning bad or missing system files on your system:

Use System File Checker (SFC) tool to find and fix corrupted or missing system filesTo use SFC scan, here is what you need to do:

Launch the Windows Command Prompt as administrator, you can do that by searching for “Command Prompt” in the Windows search box, right-click the first search result and click the “Run as administrator” option. Then click “Yes” from the prompt asking for confirmation to run CMD as admin. In the Command Prompt window, type the following command and press the Enter  key on your keyboard:  • sfc /scannow Wait for Windows to complete the scan. It will scan for corrupt/missing files and will repair the files if necessary, automatically.

For any corrupted or missing files found by Windows, the OS will repair them by replacing them with the cached copy. The cached copy is located in the critical Windows folder, in a compressed state.

Use Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool to find corrupted or missing system files

The DISM command tool helps Windows users to check for any corrupted files on the system by taking aid from the CheckHealth option. Please take note that the DISM tool will only locate corrupted files and will not repair the files, as the scan is running. Here is how you can use the DISM tool:

Open Windows Command Prompt from the search box on the taskbar. Search for the Command prompt in the search box, right-click and select “Run as administrator”. When CMD opens, type the following command down below and press the Enter key on your keyboard.  • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth After pressing the Enter key, the DISM scan will begin, wait for the scan to complete. You can also perform a deep scan. Type or copy + paste the following command into the CMD window:  • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth In case Windows will find issues related to Windows 10 image, type the following command to repair the Windows image:  • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth After you are done following the steps listed above, Windows will connect to Microsoft servers to download and replace the corrupted files.

After running the SFC/DISM scans, try running Call of Duty to check if the dev error is fixed or not.

#12- Disable Ray Tracing & Crossplay

Ray Tracing is a rendering technique that is used by designers to produce ultra-realistic images based on real life lighting systems. This technology is around for quite some time, but it was nearly impossible to implement the technology in video games due to the sheer amounts of calculations it would require to render every single ray. Until Nvidia released their first generation of RTX cards. If you have an RTX GPU and you might have turned on Ray Tracing, whether intentionally or accidentally. When you first started Call of Duty, chances are due to the high amounts of GPU resources Ray Tracing technology uses, your game is constantly crashing. Since Ray Tracing is developed on DirectX, disabling Ray Tracing might be worth a shot.

Launch Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Go to “OPTIONS” and go to the “GRAPHICS” tab. Scroll down and find “DirectX Raytracing”. Change the Ray Tracing from “Enabled” to “Disabled”. Press “Apply Settings” to save any changes that you made. Now head back to the main menu, where you can see the multiplayer and Warzone. Click the gear icon to open “Options”. Then select “ACCOUNT”, find and change the value of “Crossplay” to “Disabled”. Try playing Call of Duty to check if you are still facing the dev error 6068.

#13- Update Your Windows

Updating your software regularly and frequently is a decent practice that will save you from bugs, glitches, and, most importantly, from security threats. Sometimes due to outdated versions of Windows causes performance issue in games. If you are not sure that you are up-to-date with the latest version of Windows, you might want to update it, and if any bad or missing Windows file is causing the issues, it will be fixed, and hopefully, you will not see any more of that crashes. Windows also often release updates for gameplay improvements. Here is how you can update your Windows to the latest version:

Open the Windows Update feature by searching for “Check for updates” in the Windows search box. After the Windows Update windows appear, click the “Check for updates“. Wait for Windows as it searches for the latest Windows 10 version, if found wait for the download to complete, Windows will then automatically install the update. When the update is downloaded and installed completely, restart your system for the new update to take full effect. Launch Call of Duty and check if you are facing any crashes. If the issue is resolved, then it was a Windows update. If you are unable to find any update, alternatively, you can: Head over to Google and search for “Windows Update assistant”. Download the update assistant from Microsoft’s official website. Install the software and run it. The updater will automatically check for updates. If there is any available, download and install it on your system.

#14- Forcing The Game To Re-Update

You can try to force Call of Duty to re-update again, and it might remove the crash issue once for all. This solution was posted by a user online on Activision forums, meaning this fix worked for him, and it might work for you as well. Now, how you can force the game to re-update? The solution is pretty simple and straightforward:

Make sure Call of Duty is not running, if you are running the game, quit it. Check the Task Manager that the game is properly exit. Now, Open the Battle.net client from your desktop. To be on the safe side, run the program as an administrator. Now on the main screen of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, find and click the gear icon right beside the big “Play” button, and select “Show in Explorer”. This will open the directory where Call of Duty files are installed. Open the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare folder. Start deleting files, you may delete all files EXCEPT for Blizzardbrowser, Data, and Main. After deleting, launch the game from Battle.net. You will get the error that the game has corrupted files. Proceed with the update option. This will make the game re-update forcefully. After it will fully update, run Call of Duty from the Battle.net client to check if you are still facing the dev error 6068 or not.

#15- Upgrade Your RAM

One of the biggest issues with the Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Warzone is not its massive size on storage driver, neither it is that graphic intensive. It is RAM, without a doubt. If you have lower RAM storage like 4GB or 8GB, for instance. Do not get me wrong, 8GB RAM is not low, but considering how demanding games are becoming year after year, it is hard to properly game on 8GB like it used to be a couple of years ago. Now, if you have 8GBs of RAM, chances are the game will not run as smoothly as it should, and you might keep facing these annoying crashes. If you have 8GB of RAM, you might want to think about upgrading your RAM to at least 12 or 16GB. Some people have reported that after upgrading their RAMs, they successfully removed crashes and can play the game with peace of mind. If you already have 16GB or more memory capacity of RAMs, skip this solution. Windows 10 can sometimes consume abnormal amounts of RAM, so if you already have less than recommended memory, you will get crashes, and the performance will only deteriorate. You can borrow memory sticks from your friend to check if this fixes the crashes. If the crashes still exist, it means memory is not your main problem, you should try other workarounds. While we are at it, you can try enabling XMP for your RAM. It is possible your RAM is underclocked and is the main bottleneck which is causing crashes all along. XMP (Extreme Memory Profiles) are predefined memory profiles with optimal settings that are already determined by Intel. These profiles can be used for overclocking the RAMs. They are useful for beginners that are new to overclocking. Many motherboards can detect these predefined settings and apply them on the go. The consumers will not have to modify the frequencies, voltages, and timings manually. All of the work is already done and tested by Intel. In simple words, it is like a preset which is already made by experts that you can use with a click of a button (although it takes more than one button for RAM overclocking). You can find the XMP settings in the BIOS settings of your motherboard. You can easily find these profiles if the motherboard supports these profiles.

#16- Deleting The Data Folder

Just like we have tried forcing the game to re-update forcefully, this fix includes deleting the data folder located inside the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare folder. Unlike the re-update method, we will be only deleting the data folder. Data is one of the core folders, deleting it will also put the game into force updating. You can delete the folder by following the steps mentioned down below: NOTE: Before trying this method, make sure that you have tried other methods first, deleting the “Data” folder will delete 90% of the data, and it is the same as downloading from scratch.

Clicking “Show in Explorer” will open the directory where Call of Duty files are installed. Open the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare folder. Launch the Battle.net client from your desktop or from the Start menu. Now on the main screen of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, find and click the gear icon right beside the big “Play” button, and select “Show in Explorer”. Open the directory where Call of Duty is installed. Find and delete the “Data” folder. After deleting, run Call of Duty from the Battle.net client, the client will show an error that the game files are corrupted. Update the game. After updating, try running Call of Duty again to check if this resolves the issue.

#17- Reinstall The Game

Now that you have tried almost every workaround from the article and yet the dev error 6068 is still there to annoy you, there are still a couple of workarounds left that you can try to fix this obnoxious issue. Most of the remaining fixes are time-consuming and can get frustrating. Reinstalling the game is one of such fixes. To completely reinstall the game from scratch, you will have to uninstall the game first. One of the ways to uninstall the game is by using the Battle.net launcher, you can also delete the game from the installation directory. I would suggest you delete the game using the Battle.net launcher. Here is how you can do that:

Make sure Call of Duty is not running, if you are running the game, quit it. Check the Task Manager and ensure that any process related to Call of Duty is not running. Now, launch the Battle.net client. Press the gear icon right beside the big “Play” button and select “Uninstall”. A prompt will pop out, press “Yes, Uninstall”. Wait for the client to complete uninstallation, after uninstallation, install the game again and check if reinstalling resolves the issue.

#18- Set The Game Window To Borderless

If you have multiple monitor setups, you might already be using borderless fullscreen mode. People have reported that changing the game window from fullscreen to borderless fullscreen mode helped reducing crashes to the minimum. If you have no idea about what is the difference between fullscreen and borderless fullscreen mode. In fullscreen, the GPU renders the images or the game to the exact size of your monitor. It is usually faster than borderless fullscreen, but the difference is negligible. However, the borderless fullscreen mode has its advantages. It provides more flexibility to the user as they can easily move their mouse cursor from one screen to another (in multiple display setups). In fullscreen mode, Windows grants full access to the screen output to the respective application or video game. Games usually perform better in fullscreen than borderless fullscreen mode. However, it restricts the mouse movement to a single monitor. Which is not so great for people with multiple monitors. Plus, the “Alt + Tab” is much easier to use in borderless fullscreen as well. Changing the game window is easy. All you have to do is follow the following:

Launch Call of Duty and head over to “Options“. From “OPTIONS” select “GRAPHICS”. Under “Display”, change the “Display Mode” to “Borderless Fullscreen”. Press “Apply Settings” when done. Play Call of Duty to check whether if the game is still throwing the Dev Error 6068.

#19- Enable Server Latency

This is not exactly a fix, but it might help in catching the culprit behind the annoying crashes. If you are not familiar, there is an option in Call of Duty that, when turned on, shows the necessary details of the server on which you are playing on. Sometimes, due to high latency, the game can crash. This helps with high latency servers. According to some people, they managed to prevent the crash after not playing on high latency servers. Although it does not make much sense that a game crashes due to high latency, but in Call of Duty, you can never rule out the possibilities unless you have tried them yourself. To check your ping and server latency:

Start Call of Duty: Modern Warfare from Battle.net. Head over to “OPTIONS” and then click the “GENERAL” tab. Scroll down, under “TELEMETRY” change the value of “Server Latency” from “Disabled” to “Enabled”. Press “Apply Settings” if you see the button to save changes. Now you will be able to check the server latency when in-game if you are matched to a high latency server. Leave the lobby and queue for a new match. You may also want to change your region to get matched with players with acceptable server latency.

#20- Disable Overclocking Of CPU/GPU

Overclocking of CPU and GPU is not something special these days since AMD and Intel CPUs have provided decent means to overclock their CPU with ease. When it comes to GPU, people mostly tend to use MSI Afterburner for their Nvidia GPUs, AMD has now built-in support for their GPUs in their drivers. AMD users do not have to use any third-party overclocking software. They can use it if they want. Now, it is nothing special if you are using your CPU or GPU overclocked. Overclocking is a great feature to squeeze out that extra performance out of your PC hardware. If you are overclocking your CPU or GPU, you might want to disable them or even underclock them. I know it sounds weird, but this has fixed the crashing issue for people around the globe. It might be worth giving a shot. I understand how hard it is to get the right speeds for overclocking. In case your problem does not get resolved after underclocking or disabling overclocking, take a screenshot of your previous set values for your CPU /GPU. You can always use that screenshot to set the clock speeds back to the stable values for overclocking. I have never used CPU overclocking, so I do not think I can be of much help in disabling CPU related overclocks. However, if you are on MSI Afterburner, you can underclock your GPU by:

From your taskbar, open “MSI Afterburner”. From the GUI of the Afterburner, find “Power Limit” and drag the slider down to 95-90% or lower. Now for “Core Clock,” drag the slider back to 0, do the same for “Memory Clock” (The UI can change from user to user, so do not panic). Press the tick button when done to save your settings. Run Call of Duty again to check if the issue is resolved or not.

#21- Lower FOV

One of the last but not least fixes that you can try and fix the dev error 6068 potentially is by lowering the FOV (Field of Vision). One of the huge benefits of playing Call of Duty on a PC instead of a console is the ability to change the FOV. High FOV makes the GPU work more than the default value, which is 80, and some games have 85. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has a FOV of 80. The minimum value that you can set for the FOV is 60, and the maximum is 120. If you are not familiar with FOV, it is a feature in games that allows more game world to render by the GPU for the screen. The player with high FOV values tends to see more of the game world compared with people playing on lower FOV, which is a clear advantage to PC players over console players. If you are playing at a higher FOV value than your GPU can handle, it might be the one causing the game to crash due to its inability to render such high FOV values, and a weird aspect ratio can also put more strain on the GPU. Try lowering your FOV values, and it might just do the trick. To change the FoV:

Launch Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Go to the “Options”, and then select “GENERAL”. Edit the value of “Field of View” to 90 or 85. Click “Apply Settings” if you will see the button. Play any multiplayer match or Warzone to check if you are facing the dev error 6068 anymore.

#22- Reset Or Clean Install Windows

This is the last workaround in the list and should be followed only if every single solution in this article did not work for you whatsoever. It is possible that due to corrupt Windows files or due to even ransomware or virus, you are prevented from playing the game smoothly. To rule out this possibility, try resetting your Windows first before trying a clean and fresh Windows installation. Back up your necessary data before doing a reset of clean installation of Windows. You do not want to lose your precious data due to a video game, do you? To reset your system, follow the steps listed down below:

Open the Windows Recovery feature by typing the “Reset this PC” text in the search box, located right next to the Start button. Click the first search result. In the new window, under “Reset this PC,” click the “Get started”. Now, you will be presented with two options, “Keep my files” and “Remove everything”. My suggestion is to select the “Remove everything”. Selecting the “Keep my files” option may not fully reset the system files. Next, you will have the choice to select from “Cloud download” and “Local reinstall”. Select whichever choice you want. The Window will prompt you with Additional settings. Press the “Change settings” and change anything you want. Press “Next” when you think you are good to go. Then select “Reset,” and Windows will start to reset your PC with the settings of your choice. Wait for your PC to complete the process. Reinstall Call of Duty and Battle.net to check if the issue is resolved or not.

If resetting did not work for your system, it is time to install a clean and fresh version of Windows. The launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was ruined by countless bugs and crashes.
